Five years ago today I set foot on Canadian soil, or should I say snow, for the first time. And on that very same night I saw the most incredible natural phenomenon I have ever seen and maybe will ever see: The Northern Lights.

They are simply spectacular. During my year and a half mission, I only saw them twice. Once that first night I arrived while driving in a blizzard from Manitoba to Saskatchewan. And the second, while driving home from a teaching appointment in rural Warroad, Minnesota.

It was truly a spiritual experience to watch the colors dance and wave across the sky. It was as if God had a paint brush and decided to paint the sky in shades of greens, pinks, purples and yellows. I hope everyone has an opportunity to see this incredibly unbelievable sight at least once in their lifetime!

That is truly something I've always wanted to witness in my lifetime...maybe someday...
