Christmas at the Ritz

For Family Home Evening we decided to drive down the street to the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel to see what kind of amazing things the designers came up with this Christmas!

Every year the Ritz puts up a huge Christmas tree in the entrance to the hotel. This year they decked it out in all red lights. Isn't it amazing!!!

While we were there we took some fun photos to put in a calendar that we gave to my Grandma Lori for Christmas. Aren't my parents so cute! I hope I age as well them!

You can tell my brother was really interested in what was going on the entire time!!!

My favorite part of the decorations at the Ritz is their over the top Gingerbread house! Its 100% edibile.

I just loved the giant rice krispie treat surf boards. These people are ingenious!

And how about the waffles for the roof tiles. Who comes up with this stuff?

I love me some Tori Burch, a little Chanel, and maybe a Mark Jacobs too! Please and thank you.

Oooooh! Merry Christmas to me!!! Hey Santa, wouldn't I look cute in this little black Bentley!

Probiotics

I've recently found something new to be OCD about. And no, its not my Isagenix kick I've been on (which is totally amazing by the way.) Its called Probiotics. A few months ago I suffered from a terrible staph infection. It was awful. I'm not even gonna go into detail. Anyway, its a bacterial infection and so naturally I had to go on an antibiotic to kill the nasty bacteria in my system. However, what I didn't learn until recently is that the drugs I was taking to kill the bacteria didn't just kill all the bad bacteria in my body, it started killing ALL the bacteria in my body. Some of you might be saying "But isn't that a good thing?" No! There are alot of good bacteria in the body that we need to help us fight off disease and other health problems.

I did a little research on the subject and learned a ton about this new health craze to hit America called Probiotics, and I now swear by the stuff. Read on, you're gonna want to go out and get some of this stuff today:

What Are Probiotics?
Probiotics are living microorganisms, usually lactic acid bacteria, that when consumed in sufficient numbers can provide health benefits that go beyond basic nutrition. The benefits are due, in large part, to the effects of these so-called "friendly" bacteria on different intestinal functions. But benefits may also include removing harmful substances from the body or countering some of their effects

You can get probiotics in many forms, but my favorite is kind of like a breakfast product that can be found in the yogurt section of your grocery store. My favorite is the 90 Calorie DanActive, by Dannon. Its clinically proven to help strengthen your body's defenses. I got this info straight off their website:

"As well as being a healthy choice, DanActive has all the great taste you'd expect from Dannon. Ideal for breakfast, but a real treat for any time of the day. You can enjoy DanActive in a standard fat range (1.7% fat). With these five delicious flavors there's something to tempt everyone's tastebuds!"

My favorite flavor is DanActive Vanilla! I'm drinking one right now. Its divine! Go out and get some today. You'll be hooked!

Happy Birthday Holly!

Saturday night was girl's night out to celebrate the birth of our lovely friend Holly! You're sooo hot Holly! We went up to Long Beach to one of her favorite restaurants called Le Creperie Cafe. What a treat. The food was fantastic and the entertainment was a total hit. Thanks for letting us share your birthday with you Holly!

All Aboard!

Tuesday night was the Pierside ward's annual Newport Harbor Christmas cruise. Thanks to Kristin, we got ahold of some tickets and it was "All Aboard." We all had a great time. At the end of the night I just kinda sat back and realized that all my friends that are always feeling sorry for me because I am single honestly have no idea!!! I am having the time of my life!

Twas the lights before Christmas...

Last night was the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade. This is by far one of my favorite Southern California Christmas traditions. This year the Hobbin's family showcased their yacht all decorated in holiday cheer and invited a bunch of friends to be a part of the scene. It was also conveniently Natalie Down's birthday. Happy Birthday Natalie!!! We had such a great time celebrating with her as we circled the harbor and enjoyed the parade of boats all decoarted for Christmas.

POWDER PUFF FOOTBALL!!!

The Slammerz strategizing their next play!

I think I can outrun this one...

...told you I could. She's down!!!

All the way Mandy!!!

Wendy, the recruit from Newport...we couldn't have done it without you!

Touchdown!!!

I love Powder Puff football!!! A few months ago the Huntington Beach Pierside ward challenged the girls from the San Clemente 5th ward to a game of Powder Puff football. We practiced twice a week for 2 months to prepare for the big game this last Saturday. Unfortunately it was a total upset when we lost the game. But, our spirits remained high (ok, so maybe I was kind of a sore loser...but I got over it.) We all had such a blast. And it was so funny to see the guys perform at halftime in a full-on cheerleading routine. Classic. Can't wait till next year!!!

What a weekend!

I am definitely one to appreciate those quiet weekends when there's not much going on. I can sleep in as late as I want to, lounge around the house all day in my pjs, and eat pancakes til I'm sick. However, this was not one of those weekends!

It all started Friday after work when I met my friend Kristin for dinner at the cutest little cafe called Mustard's. We enjoyed salds and shared a panini. So yummy!

Then we raced over to the Fullerton stake center to reserve ourselves a seat to hear Elder Bednar speak. It was absolutely amazing. I went with some ideas of what he might speak to the young adults about, but I was pleasantly suprised when he opened up the 2 hour meeting into an intimate question and answer. I was too chicken to raise my hand to ask a question, but there were others asked that were similar to mine so I think I got some pretty great counsel.

After the fireside, we drove down to San Clemente to help Ryan Bunker celebrate his 30th Birthday. Geez Bunk...you're getting old. We still love you though!

Saturday morning I woke up early to pump myself up for the biggest game of the year...the San Clemente vs. Huntington Beach Powder Puff Football game, played by yours truly. I have never had so much fun at a ward sponsored event. And despite the huge upset (yes, we lost!) it was still so much fun. I'm pretty sure we're planning a re-match in the near future. Only, next time instead of middle linebacker, I think I'd like to be a receiever. (I got worked by those HB girls...they were pretty beastly!)

After the game I ran home to get cleaned up for a date to the John Mayer Concert. Now, I've never been all that excited about John Mayer. I like his music ok and some of his lyrics I can really relate to. But after his concert, I have come to really respect and rear John Mayer as one of the most talented musicians of today. I have never seen anyone play the guitar like that before. He puts on a GREAT live show. My favorite performance of the night was a cover of "Free Falling." Amazing! And just a little side note, I was pretty excited to be sitting directly behind Mathew Perry (Chandler from "Friends"). I totally wanted to talk to him but I didn't have the guts. Plus, I wasn't really sure what I would have said that wouldn't have made me sound like a complete retard. So, instead of talking to him, I waiting until he left and stole his leftover candy. Thats right! I ate Mathew Perry's gummi bears and M&Ms. So good! And kinda random, but did you know Mathew is missing the end of his middle finger on his right hand? Who knew?

Sunday wasn't any less eventful than the rest of the weekend. At church I was sustained as a member of the Activities Committee which I'm not gonna lie...really excited about. After the three hour block I had the opportunity to attend our annual Fari International Christmas work dinner at the Ritz Restaurant in Newport Beach. What an event! All the who's who and celebrities of Orange County came out for the event, flashing their billions in the form of 10k diamond rings, chanel dresses and all their plastic enhancements. The intimidation factor was at an all time high! But something unexpected happened at the end of the night. My boss Fari called on the 3 mormon kids that work for the company to come up to the front of the crowd and receive our holiday bonuses (a little embarassing!) But, and this may sound so silly, as I stood at the head of that crowd with Jason and Jeremiah, the spirit totally came over me and for a brief moment I thought about how all the people in that room with all their gold, jewels, fancy handbags, and enormous bank accounts, could not even hold a candle tothe kinds of "wealth" we had in our lives as members of the true and living church. I truly felt like a million bucks standing up there...I really can't describe it. It was awesome!!!

As the festivities ended and I watched all of our clients drive away in their Bentleys, Maybach's, and Rolls, I recalled the scripture in Mathew 6 thats says: "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." When I thought about it, I realized I am truly a rich girl! How lucky am I!

Music to my ears...

If you buy only one new Christmas album this year, let it be Josh Groban "Noel." My favorite song is "Angels We Have Heard on High" sung as a duet by Josh Groban and Brian McKnight. Its fantastic! Go out and get it today!

SC5 Ward Christmas Party

I signed up to decorate a table...

...and yes, I was looking forward to it all week!

Yum!

Doesn't Mark look like "Where's Christmas Waldo?" So cute!

Even Santa came for a visit. Can you guess who it is?

Paula and....Cameron!!! Ho ho ho!

The talent show.

Who knew our ward was so full of talent!

How many people does it take to make a slide show run?
5 wards members and an Apple store employee. Thanks Tris!

We had our wards Christmas Party Friday night and it was so much fun. I loved everything from decorating my table to the amazing Ham and turkey dinner with all the trimmings, to a visit from Santa, a gingerbread making contest and even a ward talent show...Julie Monroe stole the show (see picture of cute blonde and ugly mustache doll).
After the party ended we all came back to Club Messick to finish off the night with a little golf, basketball, hot tub and s'mores. Great idea, whoever thought of it! We'll have to do a repeat soon.
